SATC Style Dresses without the Price Tag!
Looking to emulate some of the style from the latest SATC movie? Well we don’t blame you. As SJP has said herself some of the outfits are just ridiculous, i.e. wearing couture on a camel in the dessert, but worn to the right event, amazing. We have scoured our pages and the scenes from the sex and the city 2 film and here are two of the best examples we have found that capture the style.
Carrie Style Dress (This one is from America, but they do ship to the UK for $35 which is approx £25, Dress not available until 30th July, but worth the wait)
Cynthia Style Dress
We recommend you buy fast. Monsoon sold out of their SATC style dresses within hours of the films promotional releases.
This skirt has also been designed we feel with the same inspiration. Team this with a halter neck to get the look or a simple white vest top and look stunning…..

Tootsie Treat.. This seasons shoe style for Prom,Weddings or Girl’s Night Out
The sun has definitely made a break through this week so I think it’s a good idea to put “spring” in your step ! How do we do that I hear you ask ? It’s easy, over the last few days the WRUW team have been busy scouring the assortments of shoes on offer for S/S ‘10.
Wedges, Clogs, brightly coloured strappy high heeled sandals and flower finished evening shoes are massive this season and if your not ready to brave it with bare tootsie’s then team your wedges with silky spun socks for that geek glam feel seen on many a model during the catwalk parade..

Strapy Jewelled, Neon or Snakeskin Heeled Sandals

Prom Show Marriot Hotel 2009
No one loves a Fashion Show more than me, loud music beautiful clothes dramatic lighting and models with attitude that inspire you for the upcoming trends. I had not however been to a Prom Fashion Show, so when the opportunity to represent WRUW at a local Prom Fair I jumped at the chance. Since I never attended my school prom I have always felt slightly regretful and always enjoyed advising students on their prom dresses when I worked in a boutique years ago. Many of you that use our website are either graduating from High School or attending an end of year ball at University so with that in mind I thought you would like to see what you can expect from your local Prom Fair.
There were so many glittery stalls displaying sparkling tiaras and diamond encrusted hair pieces it really was difficult to know where to look without being dazzled ! Everything you could possibly need to organise the perfect prom experience had a presence all ready to give you advice; limousine hire, suit hire, boutiques, shoes, corsets, balloon decoration entertainers and photographers ( see business link category )
The last hour was dedicated to the catwalk show whose models and choreographer where from the local school. The dance routines were just as fabulous as the dresses, and all of the attendees from mothers and daughters to students researching ideas had a great time . Prom is certainly a milestone event now then the days when I left school and local Prom Fairs are an excellent way to support local businesses.

Choosing Your Perfect Prom Dress
So Prom has finally arrived! A girl’s first prom has to be the most important social event on a young person’s calendar. In the past ten years we have seen the School Prom grow into a spectacular event for young people all around the UK.

Originally celebrated over in the USA we are now spending more time and money than our American counterparts. Parents are spending up to £600 on average on hair, make-up, dresses, limousine hire and accessories! Long gone are ideas of the school gym used as a venue, now teachers are expected to hire hotels for this significant event. Students feel after studying hard all year for their exams it’s time to celebrate and let their hair down so why not go for full on Hollywood red carpet glamour, and these proms are really shaping up to be like an Oscar style event with the dresses that would make Julia Roberts jealous. However it’s not that easy to find the right prom dress, it demands hard work and research and most importantly you need to know how to guarantee you’ll be the only one wearing it?
Ladies the first rule to remember when shopping for an important item of clothing is: be prepared! Many girls start to browse as early as September which is understandable considering the excitement. Don’t leaving finding such an important item to the last minute. Remember you will have your prom photos for the rest of your life and unlike weddings, this event is guaranteed to only happen once. If and when you have found a dress you like make sure you place a deposit on it as when you go back to buy it the chances are it will be gone! Kate Cunney who is a style advisor at Vanilla Boutique nr Manchester tells me this is a very common mistake “We have had girls crying on the shop floor when the dress has been sold to someone else, my advice is if you like the dress then don’t take the chance!” Many of the independent boutiques that buy prom dresses only stock a couple of each size in a style.
If you have a particular style in mind or a design of your own, I strongly suggest that you visit a reputable seamstress and have your dress made for you as your ideal will be hard to find and you will be disappointed with a ‘make do’ purchase. There are thousands of brands on offer now and websites such as whatruwearing.co.uk to help with the hard work.
The wruw website is designed to eliminate double dress disasters. You can register your prom, so you and all your friends can see which dresses you’re planning to wear and ensure that you will no longer need to text or call to ask “what are you wearing?” Their occasion wear directory has a great selection of prom dresses from all different labels and designers which increases your chances of finding that perfect prom dress. They even display ranges from designers to the stars like Kate Fearnley who has recently dressed xfactor winner Alexandra Burke, Girls Aloud and Katie Price. Kate offers an alteration service so you can ensure that you truly do look fabulous on your day.
